Mental Health Counseling
Seattle Counseling Service provides an array of mental health services for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities and their significant others. We help individuals and families with everything from single episode to mild to severe persistent mental illness. Treatment is tailored to meet the specific needs of the individual and draws from a variety of treatment approaches. We have a special emphasis on strengths-based counseling because we believe in the power and ability of each person to heal themselves. All counseling is LGBTQI-affirmative and conducted in an atmosphere free from homophobia, prejudice, fear, ignorance and heterosexism/cisexism.
We are fully licensed and certified by the Washington State Department of Health & Human Services. All counseling sessions are provided by licensed mental health counselors and supervised masters-level interns. All counselors have experience and training in working with LGBTQI clients.
We provide individual, couples, family, and group counseling for many needs and can help you work through all kinds of life issues. Some common client needs and services include:
HIV/AIDS
Short-term crisis intervention counseling for anyone dealing with an HIV or AIDS related problem and long-term psychotherapy for people living with AIDS.
YOUTH
Crisis intervention, case management, and individual and family therapy for LGBTQI youth and the children of LGBTQI parents.
INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE
Support for survivors of sexual and/or domestic violence through individual and group counseling, and through crisis intervention.
GENDER TRANSITIONS
Transsexual/Transgender/Gender Different counseling, including help with accessing hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and other trans-related surgical treatments.
RELATIONSHIPS
Individual, couples, and family counseling for dealing with relationship issues.
COMING OUT
Individual and group therapy for those exploring and coping with new awareness of their own sexual orientation or gender identity.
AGING
Individual support for older adults who identify as LGBTQI.
DEPRESSION & ANXIETY
Individual and group therapy for dealing with short-term or chronic depression and/or anxiety.

Your First Appointment
Your first appointment will be a two-hour intake session. A counselor will meet with you to learn more about your specific needs, your background and history, and your goals for therapy. This information will help your therapist when working with you to develop a plan for treatment.
Fees
We accept Medicaid and many insurance plans. The usual fee is $120 per counseling session, which may be discounted if you are low-income and uninsured.
